Alamogordo

One Saturday mid September we decided to head up to Alamogordo.  It is an hour and fifteen minute drive north of us.  There was a hot air balloon glow in the evening so we decided to make the day of it.  First we met our friends, the Smiths, at a McDonalds with a play place for lunch and visited with them for a bit while our little ones played.  Then we headed to the Space Museum built on the mountain.  As I look at the sign it is actually called the International Space Hall of Fame.  

This was right up our alley, we love exploring cool museums.

This one even had an interactive display where you could pretend to be an astronaut.

They stood on the this metal plate and it shook like the ground when different types of rockets launched.

There were many interesting displays and about three floors of things to explore.

The kids liked the astronaut food display.

But the most awesome was where they could dress up!  These are the cutest astronauts I've ever seen.

They even had a Star Trek display at the end.

Outside they had many things to see as well.

The rocket in the background is visible from the town down below because it's on the side of the mountain.

There was a playground the kiddos liked the play on also.

After the museum it was late afternoon so we decided to visit the local library to kill some time.  It ended being super fun for the kids.  We stayed until they closed.

Sylvia even asks about this library and wants to go back there.  They had a terrarium with cockroaches! (not pictured)

Then we went to IHop because we saw a sign that said kids eat free.  Again we unexpectedly had a blast.

Everyone loved their food, was in good moods, and we made happy memories together.

After dinner we made our way to the big open field at the edge of town where the balloon glow was the take place.  It had sprinkled while we were in the restaurant and a gorgeous rainbow was waiting for us.

We saw the Smiths again and said hello.  The weather was beautiful except for being windy.

My favorite part of the whole day was watching Andrew and Sylvia run around with Tyler playing in the field.  Christian even joined the fun the toddled after everyone!  Can you see him in the picture?

Because of the wind, the glow was cancelled at the last minute but then as we were leaving they lit up the balloon torches momentarily so we got to see it after all.  Everyone was sleepy on the way home after a wonderful very full day.
