Farm and Ranch together

Shortly after Tyler got back we went to the Farm and Ranch museum in Las Cruces, NM. We had gone there before while he was gone but it was so much fun that we wanted to go back with him also.

It was a beautiful day for it too!

The first thing we did was get pony rides for the big kids. They were very excited to get to ride actual horses, they love horses in books, toys, and on TV shows. The kids were slightly nervous at first, but once they were on the horses and walking around they loved it!

They did great for their first time riding horses.

Here are the twins watching the big kids ride the horses.  They were intrigued.

Next we checked out a saddle exhibit.  We found a few new places to see that we didn't visit the first time around, this was one of them.

The kids even got to pound their own leather squares to see how difficult it is to decorate the saddles.

We toured the barns again to say hello to the animals.

Then we saw Cal again in the dairy cow exhibit.  Drink milk, everyone!

This part shows the kids how they milk the cows.

This was a cute picture of Andrew and Tyler walking over to join us on the other side of the property.

We packed a lunch for the trip and ate at a little playground near the front of the main museum.

 

This was the fun playground area.  Christian has just gone down the slide.  He quickly brushed himself off and kept playing.

Next we entered the main museum.  We saw the owls at the entrance again!

It's cool to see the progression of houses in the area.  It starts out with a hut made from logs....

Then into this more structured home with a courtyard, ovens, and even baby swing.

There is even a General Store.  The kids are playing checkers.

It is cool to see all the things that might have been for sale during that time.  They even have an old catalog they would have looked through to order household goods, tools, guns, etc. 

The the post office area is a part of the store too.  Not pictured is the evolution of transportation.  Many types of buggies and wagons are on display too.

Then we spent time in the kids' favorite section of the museum.

The kids love to play pretend with shopping store toys. Here is Christian buying some food while Andrew and Sylvia ring up his groceries.  So glad we could share this fun place with Daddy!
