Airplane Museum

We've been here since April of 2013 and it has taken us two and a half years to take the 45 minute trip down to the Air Museum at Pueblo! We went in the middle of October back when it was still nice and warm out.

Here is a B-29 bomber. It's the type of aircraft that was used to drop the atomic bombs on Japan. This particular one was used for pilot training here in the states and never actually saw war.

They are renovating this, and many other old airplanes. We could only look inside, but it would be cool to come back in a few years when they are fully restored and you can climb around inside!

Tyler took a picture of this display because it has an abacus. Tyler learned to use one while he was in elementary school in Japan, the Japanese word for abacus being Soroban. He moved to Germany and took part in a "Brain Bowl" competition, which is a trivia contest similar Jeopardy. One questions asked the name of an old fashioned calculator that used beads, to which Tyler answered Soroban. The judge said he was wrong and the other team responded with abacus. They got the point for the question and Tyler looked silly. He named the correct object, just in the wrong language! It still haunts him to this day.

We did manage to get him to explore some airplanes too though. Hello daddy and Andrew!

On the way out we got a Black Hawk Helicopter mug for Tyler and a airplane toy for Andrew. He was inseparable from it for about a week when he started to break off the propeller one prop at a time. It was great way to spend a morning on one of the last summer days! We can't believe we waited so long to visit this cool museum.
